21 March is the International Day of Forests, which was resolved by the UN General Assembly. It is a day to raise awareness of forests and trees worldwide. Forest protection is important for biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, etc., but approximately 10 million hectares are lost every year. Deforestation is also said to be responsible for about a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions due to agriculture and other land-use changes.
On 21 March (Fri), a screening of the documentary film Great Green Wall, which follows a spectacular 8,000 km tree-planting programme across Africa, distributed by United People, will be held at Social Venture PARK in Tenjin, Fukuoka City. The screening will be followed by a post-screening talk by United People Ambassador and author/forest dweller Daisuke Yosumi, Borderless Japan representative Kazunari Taguchi, who is involved in a number of social businesses, and United People representative Kenji Sekine. We look forward to seeing you all there. For more information and registration, click here!
